I had
this crazy idea about a year ago for
a comic.Take the people around me,
put my life onto paper. After all,
there just don't seem to be many
little 'real life' comics out there.
Damn, I then thought, it's too
dangerous, and I'd have to spill out
there little secrets for anything to
make sense. Not a good idea if I
wanted to see my next birthday.
Okay,
so what if I took just everyone's
personalities, morphed them into
echidna type creatures, and made up a
completely different world. Like an
alternative universe. So far the
responses from the people involved
have been positive. It's a cross
between serious bits and funny bits.
My odd sense of being.
I'm
unsure as to how all this will end
up. I want to get about 3 issues of
20 pages done and hand it around to a
few publishers, see what they think
and if they'll sell it. If not, it
may eventually turn up here. But
until then...
.SETTING
It's
the year 2000 and Jay is in his final
year of high school. We follow the
adventures of him and his classmates
as they go through life. The comic
starts at the end of the third term,
when final projects are due and
tension is high... oooooh.
.CAST

thumbnails to see the full sketch. I'll
have more finished designs up soon.

|
Jay:
The protagonist.
Pessimistic, cynical, but at
times rather insane. Also fairly
shy with people he doesn't know.
|

|
Sprin:
Jay's best friend and
fellow nutcase. Approach with
caution.
|

|
Mana:
Jay's... uh... interest.
Usually cheerful and seems to be
rather kind. But can be a bit
naive at times.
|

|
Slade:
Also known as Mr.
Optimist, has a tendency to get
comedy out of Jay's plights. He
means well.
|

|
Rosetta:
Jay's close friend and
substitute guardian at times.
Also the comic relief.
|

|
Janis:
Arch-nemesis of Slade,
but friend of Jay. Coffee addict.
|

|
Annette:
Jay's substitute parent
and close friend. And fellow
artist.
|

|
Audrey:
Jay's confidence when
things nose dive. Also everyone's
confidence...
|

|
Lisa:
Usually cheerful, but
vengeful.

GRAPHICS
This
is where I'll post stuff like covers,
bios, full blown illustrations and
such that aren't the comic itself.
Bleh.

Issue 1:
Cover:
The first version of it,
at least. Not much but gives
across some soppy romantic
ideology. Ech. Hey, it's your
choice if you look at it. |
.MOTIVES
In the
end I just got so sick of the ammount
of superhero children's comics
around. There are comics around that
deal with persoanl issues, but
they're far and few between, and you
really do have to look for them (I'd
get them if I had the money). Some
mangas achieve a well balanced cross
between big tankin' robot action and
character development (Neon Genesis
Evangelion) and some movies achieve
exactly the sort of interesting
result I'm looking for (Kevin Smith's
'Mall Rats'). But in the comics
industry, everyone thinks it's just
kids who read it (and I know that's
not true).
I'm 18
years old and I can speak, that's
what it comes down to. At my age,
some teenagers send off poetry to
magazines, some paint pictures in
their art classes and others take up
something like acting or dancing.
This is how I'm going to say what I
want to say...
.COMIC
Finally, the actual
comic, currently a year old, is out
for viewing. I don't think I'll be
able to finish it, so I'm not to
afraid of losing the idea. Maybe I'll
modify it later, make a new story for
these lovable echidnas. Time will
tell...

Mortigi
Tempo: Jay and Sprin: The Bus
The test I did to see if I
had the patience. Jay and Sprin
challenge the rigidness of society
with plastic. It's sortof hard to
tell them apart at this stage...
Woops.

help.
